Cloud hosting is an alternative to high spec dedicated server hosting using highly available virtualisation technologies.

The hardware on which your web hosting runs is virtualised. This brings a number of huge benefits, including the ability to offer unlimited web space & unlimited bandwidth allowances with a massive 99.99% uptime.

Many other web hosts advertise shared hosting accounts with unlimited disk space and bandwidth, in reality these packages are far from unlimited and these companies are banking on you not using it. Cloud hosting is different, because you have access to an entire virtualised network we can provide truly unlimited resources.

An important difference between our cloud service and others on offer is the fact that we have a single flat rate monthly charge no matter what resources you might use during the month, the majority of other cloud services operate on a pay as you go basis which means you could encounter varying costs, and you could be in for a nasty surprise if your website becomes very popular with large amounts of traffic.

How is this possible?

In basic terms, a conventional shared hosting enviroment allocates a set amount of resources to each web hosting account, in many instances a large amount of these resources lie dormant and unused because all of the available resources allocated to the account are not required all of the time for the website to operate properly, our flexible cloud platform pools all available resources on the entire network and distrubutes them where they are needed at any particular time, an easy way to vsualise this is to think about your bandwidth or traffic allowance, the reason why this is limitless is because the cloud is allocating unused bandwidth to your account from across the entire network.

Overall, and taking into account high usage from some customers, there will always be unused disk space, bandwidth and other resources within the cloud which is put to use instead of being wasted by providing a scalable unlimited service to all customers.

Why is it so reliable?

We use the latest virtualisation software to abstract your Plesk hosting services from the hardware that it sits on.

The storage is centralised in a highly available Storage Area Network (SAN). This not only makes the network a lot quicker, but also means that you're no longer reliant on the physical machine on which your web hosting runs. Our Cloud hosting cluster controller watches all Plesk hosting services day and night, and if it detects a failure of any critical hardware, it will automatically move the hosting onto spare hardware.

You won't notice this, and our engineers would then simply replace the failed hardware with no impact to your web site or e-mail services. We're so confident that it works, that we guarantee your hosting won't drop below 99.99% availability for the month.

Cloud Performance

Most web hosting infastructure on a whole is vastly under-used depsite overloading on individual shared hosting servers. In tests across our datacentres we've found that at any given time, about 75% of our hardware is being used less than 25% of its maximum capacity.

That's a big waste of energy and money.

By pooling both backend storage and frontend servers we can cut hardware costs dramatically, and pass that saving on to you. It also makes the whole process energy efficient.

This also means that your web hosting package always has the power you need, providing unrivalled performance gains, you're never going to find your Cloud hosting low on resources. 

What's the catch? Nothing can be unlimited!

There is no catch! For all intents and purposes you will not encounter any limits on your disk space usage or any other resources, which is why we advertise the service as unlimited. Of course it is true that the combined disk space across our entire cloud is technically a finite amount, but over a sustained period of time with a large number of customers we can predict and manage average useage across the cloud, light users will not require huge amounts of disk space, so this unused disk space in the cloud is allocated to heavy users as and when it is needed. Providing users do not violate our terms of service through activities like data warehousing etc, the cloud will remain balanced providing as much disk space and other resources as you need.

Our cloud platform is also not a replacement for a decicated server if you need to run advanced resource intensive applications, this may include 24/7 streaming internet radio, video conversion apps, large scale file distribution, any intensive web application that requires the use of excessive amounts of memory or other resources on a continuous basis. Your own isolated and dedicated platform will always be required to run services of this nature no matter who you choose as your web host (although most web hosts will not tell you this until they have you onboard, so that they can force you to upgrade to their more expensive plans). Almost all of our customers (including those utilising large amounts of disk space and bandwidth) will never encounter the need to use any of these elaborate resourse intensive apps and can build large scale advanced websites serving thousands of visitors, which will run perfectly fine on our cloud platform. We provide the award wining Plesk Control Panel as standard. It has a cleaner and easier to navigate interface than most web hosting control panels. Your most commonly used tasks will be available to you immediately and all menu options have been streamlined allowing you to get what you need done efficiently and with minimal hassle.

Data Centres

We operate from a state of the art datacentre in Manchester. Reynolds House is located on the Manchester Technopark on the periphery of Manchester City Centre.

Reynolds is a dedicated datacentre building; and one of the largest high-specification datacentre buildings in the UK.

Greenheys is our secondary facility and provides our Cloud hosting full disaster recovery.

This site is completely independent of Reynolds House allowing us to provide full multi-site Cloud hosting and offsite backup services.

We have dedicated private inter-connections between the two facilities.

Two APC UPS generator systems enable us to maintain power to servers and networking equipment should the main power grid fail.
